The Bank of Japan is Japan's central bank and a regular venue for set-piece international policy speeches. The April 2026 period brought BIS General Manager Pablo Hernández de Cos to a BoJ seminar in Tokyo to deliver "Stablecoins: framing the debate", coinciding with his meeting with FSA Japan Minister Katayama. The BoJ's own digital-yen and tokenised-deposit work is the natural counterpart to the FSA Japan PSA stablecoin regime, and BoJ has been a participant in BIS Innovation Hub cross-border tokenisation pilots through Project Mariana and adjacent work.
Role in tokenisation
- Central-bank-money counterparty for any wholesale tokenisation pilot in Japan.
- Cross-border tokenisation participant via BIS Innovation Hub workstreams.
- Hosting venue for international standard-setter speeches on stablecoins and tokenisation.
